It started with a simple idea

An instrument that plays light.

Nightfall is the culmination of nearly four years of work stemming from a passion for concert lighting and stage design.

I've always admired the craftmanship and meticulous precision that goes into putting together lighting hits in shows like ODESZA's The Finale, Elderbrook at Red Rocks and of course Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

As I dove into the world of lighting and DMX control, I found myself disappointed with existing offerings – prohibitively expensive software, poor UIs, and limited flexibility.

So, I decided to create something new. I felt Nightfall should have tools to create visual experiences with the same expressiveness and precision as a musical instrument.

Guiding principles

User-friendly

A modern UI that is easy to use, responsive, and intuitive for hobbyists and professionals alike. Launch looks from traditional cue-sequence programming, or use flow-based visual programming.

Music-oriented

Geared towards both busking live or timecoded music shows. Nightfall is inspired by audio production software to make timecoding music a first-class experience.

Interoperable

Shows are made better by composing multiple tools, so Nightfall should integrate into the existing ecosystem of tools.

Under the hood

Rust, SolidJS and Tauri.

The lighting simulations and hardware output are built on top of Bevy ECS for high performance, while a Web UI provides an intuitive interface for real-time control and visualization across a range of device sizes.
